EUROPEAN NATIONS CUP TITLE WINNERS FROM 1960

The European Nations Cup is a competition of the UEFA European Championship which is held every four years at different countries across Europe. The competition started in the year 1960 in France. Below is the years the competition took place and the countries that won the title.

1960 EUROPEAN NATIONS CUP

This was the beginning of the European Nations Cup and it was held in France. The final competition was held by Soviet Union and Yugoslavia. Soviet Union defeated Yugoslavia 2-1 after an extra time to take the first European Nations Cup title.

1964 EUROPEAN NATIONS CUP

The tournament was hosted in Spain for the first time. Spain and the defending champions, Soviet Union made it to the finals of the competition. Spain defeated Soviet Union 2-1 to claim their first title. Spain became the first nation to host the tournament and win.

1968 EUROPEAN NATIONS CUP

The Euro 68 competition was held in Italy. The final game was between Italy and Yugoslavia which Italy defeated Yugoslavia to take their first European Nations Cup title. Italy became the second nation to host the tournament and win. It was during this time that the league has been changed from European Nations Cup to UEFA European Championship.

1972 UEFA EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

The game was hosted in Belgium for the first time. The final game was between West Germany and Soviet Union which West Germany beat Soviet Union 3-0 to take their first UEFA European Championship title.

The tournament was hosted in Yugoslavia for the first time. Czechoslovakia became the winners of the competition after they defeated West Germany in penalty shoot-out. This was the first title for Czechoslovakia.

1980 UEFA EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

The competition was held in Italy for the second time. West Germany and Belgium made it to the final stage of the competition which West Germany defeated Belgium 2-1 to claim their second UEFA European Championship title.

1984 UEFA EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

The tournament was held in France for the second time. France, the host nation became the winners of the competition after they beat Spain in the finals. This was the first UEFA European Championship title for France.

1988 UEFA EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

The 1988 UEFA European Championship was hosted in West Germany. Netherlands became the title winners for the first time after they defeated Soviet Union in the finals.

1992 UEFA EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

The tournament was hosted in Sweden for the first time. Denmark won the competition after they defeated West Germany 2-0 in the final stage. This was the first UEFA European Championship title for Denmark.

1996 UEFA EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

The Euro 96 was the tenth edition of the UEFA European Championship and it was hosted in England. Germany became the winners of the tournament after they defeated Czech Republic 2-1 in the finals. This was the third title for Germany.

The Euro 2000 tournament was held in Belgium and Netherlands. The final game was between France and and Italy which France defeated Italy 2-1 to claim their second UEFA European Championship title.

2004 UEFA EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

The tournament was hosted in Portugal for the first time. Greece became the title winners for the competition after they defeated the host nation, Portugal in the finals. This was the first UEFA European Championship title for Greece.

2008 UEFA EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

The 2008 UEFA European Championship was held in Austria Switzerland for the first time. Spain and Germany made it to the finals of the competition. Spain defeated Germany 1-0 to claim their second title.

2012 UEFA EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

The Euro 2012 was held in Poland and Ukraine. Spain became the champions of the tournament after they beat Italy in the finals. This was the third title for Spain. Spain became the first team to win title in a row.

2016 UEFA EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

The tournament was hosted in France for the third time. The competition was won by Portugal after they defeated France 1-0 in the finals. This was the first title won by Portugal.

2020 UEFA EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

The Euro 2020 was held in Spain, Russia, Scotland, Netherlands, Romania, Italy, Hungary, Denmark, England, Germany and Azerbaijan. Italy became the champions of the tournament after they defeated England in penalty shoot-out in the finals. This became the second title for Italy.
